Military Fatigues/Civilian Wear?

Me and my friend both own a pair of ARMY ACU digital camo fatigues we both purchused in used /good condition from the local military surplus store. His has no patches whatsoever except for nametape and I have a backwards American flag patch, 82nd Airborne patch and branch and nametape. We have worn these into public about twice even though we are civilians because we think they'd be a good conversation starter and mainly because we love and support our country's military and like to show our support this way. I have only had one lady ask me if I am in the service and I honestly replied "no, but I am in ROTC". I am participating in Navy ROTC and will go full-time into the military after college. I would appreciate your opinions on this matter(especially from active duty militants) on if y'all think this is wrong for us to do since we are civilians. I really don't think it is a problem as long as we are not falsifying anything by wearing them.

Sure you can wear them, but remove the name tape and branch, and really you should remove the patch, too, because people might assume you've served with the 82nd, and you have no right to such a claim, even if you aren't purposely claiming it.

Don't wear them as if you are really in uniform, so as not to confuse people into thinking you are a real soldier. Again, purposefully or not, you are then making a claim to be serving in the military, which you can't claim yet. For example, just wear the pants or just wear the top, or at least wear sneakers instead of boots, and a colored t-shirt, unless you are out hunting or camping or something, then it doesn't much matter.

Also, ask your NROTC cadre, you may actually fall under military rules, not civilian ones. Civilians can wear whatever they want. People in the military however, have to be fully in proper uniform, or fully in civilian clothes. No mixing and matching, it's against regulations.
